Deletion

I'm not understanding something. Is it not possible to delete a file by admin if the picture itself gets old over some specific amount of days? I have requested to delete a file and even contacted an administrator but I didn't get any proper reply. Please refer to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Night view in Dhaka.jpg Imwin567 (talk) 07:41, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Imwin567: The DR is ongoing; I opined there. COM:DR is backlogged, and still shows a page in Commons:Deletion requests/2024/12/25. Please be patient.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:09, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It got deleted right now. Msb (talk) 16:36, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mosbatho: Thanks for that information. @Imwin567: Thanks for your patience.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:56, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Imwin567: For future reference, it's only with speedy deletion that the file has to be fairly new -- less than 7 days. If it's over that, you use the regular deletion process like you did. Just be aware that the non-speedy deletions can take a while. -- Auntof6 (talk) 17:20, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I messed up a little on understanding the difference between regular and speedy deletion this time. Thanks for letting me know that. Imwin567 (talk) 17:25, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

At Commons talk:Freedom of panorama#Vote is a vote that says it was supposed to end March 17, 2025. I won't say anything further here about what has transpired since that date in the discussion and on the project page, because I cannot see how to say it neutrally. In any case, the supposed closing date is long past. Since I was involved in the vote (with an early and emphatic opinion) I'm not the one who should close this, but I think it would be good if another admin were to do so, including a clear statement of the resolution of the vote. - Jmabel ! talk 06:35, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Earth 2025 in Sweden mass message

I would like the following mass message to be sent out: Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_in_Sweden/Mass_message. It's directed at participants in recent years' Swedish editions of WLE and WLM, encouraging them to participate in WLE 2025. I'm looking after this year's competition as Wikimedia Sverige staff. Thank you! Alicia Fagerving (WMSE) (talk) 13:10, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know how but it looks like you accidentally added the Commons:Translators' noticeboard to the recipient list. GPSLeo (talk) 21:26, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Strange, in the preview it told me it was going to send the message to 1015 recipients, and the provided list had exactly 1015 recipients, so I assumed everything was fine. Ymblanter (talk) 06:35, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that there is an IP user creating many galleries in the gallery talk namespace. Should we just delete them and should we create a filter to prevent IP users from creating gallery talk pages?

@GPSLeo: These are not the only addresses; all are in 178.121.0.0/20 (talk contribs WHOIS RBL abusefilter tools guc stalktoy block user block log Abuse filter log) in Minsk, with a history of what appear to be 1134 unconstructive edits over 13 years.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:02, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We could also block the range (without blocking account generation) as editing as IP from Belarus is not a good idea anyways. GPSLeo (talk) 16:25, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@GPSLeo: That looks reasonable.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:48, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Check of deleted file version requested

Hello,

I came across User talk:Tipsetipse after tagging File:Ronny Wilhelm.jpg as copyvio. There's a message from 2023 about a missing permission for a file under the same filename on this talk page. I'd like to request a check whether the deleted image is the same as the current one, log: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=File%3ARonny+Wilhelm.jpg . I it's warranted, then the copyvio warning may be upgraded. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 16:17, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It is a totally different photo. GPSLeo (talk) 16:23, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 16:59, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism in almost all images in Category:Anonymous for the Voiceless

See Category talk:Anonymous for the Voiceless. Could someone help me with this? On Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections, I have already made the request to protect these file pages. S. Perquin (talk) 20:06, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

 Comment I blocked Special:Contributions/2601:152:4F80:45D0:0:0:0:0/64 for 2 weeks. Yann (talk) 20:40, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a bulk tool for this? VFC ("perform batch task") does not appear to have an option for changing protection status. I tried enabling Twinkler, but P-batch spit an error message "TypeError: Twinkle.protect is undefined" even though Commons:Twinkle says it is implemented. DMacks (talk) 20:43, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DMacks: I use m:User:Xiplus/TwinkleGlobal.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:52, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I tried installing that (at :m:User:DMacks/global.js) and I get a TW menu on commons, but it does not have any of the admin features (nor in its preferences panel). DMacks (talk) 02:19, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DMacks: Sorry, I thought it might be more helpful than that. Also, AWB doesn't know how to protect automatically. I guess you will have to use the usual action=protect, or cascade protect the category.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 04:05, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification requested

I was permanently banned from Wikipedia. I have since devoted my time to photographing and documenting the South West of Sydney and connecting Wikidata entries to Commons categories. I have made thousands of what I hope are productive contributions to the project.

Recently my permanent Wikipedia ban was brought up in a category discussion. Can I clarify - if I have been banned indefinitely from the English Wikipedia, does this mean I am unwelcome on commons? I didn’t think this was the case, but it would be good to know if this is a problem so I don’t devote too much time to my SW Sydney documentation project… I am doing a part time uni degree and full time work so I’m a bit stretched at the moment!

Thanks all. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 09:40, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I didn’t know if linking to it was appropriate. Does this mean I need to notify the participant of this discussion now? It wasn’t actually about them, they make a very tangential appearance… - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 10:21, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Chris.sherlock2: Punitive actions from one project do not automatically apply to another project. We welcome your useful contributions even if you are blocked on another project. In case of problems on Commons, blocks elsewhere may influence decisions here. Yann (talk) 13:07, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Yann, I really only want to document the South West and do some categorisation work. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 19:35, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
